Search is changing. Being useful hasn’t.
Organic visibility across traditional search and AI-assisted discovery: technical SEO, search intent, information architecture, local SEO, content and schema — and answer-first, citation-worthy content that generative search can understand and attribute.
Ranked page → click → website → conversion
Answer assembled from crawlable, credible, clearly-structured sources — and cited.
Entity clarity helps both
What is AEO?
Answer engine optimisation (AEO) is the practice of structuring content so that search engines and AI assistants can extract a direct, accurate answer from it — clear definitions, answer-first paragraphs, descriptive headings, explicit entities and structured data. Generative engine optimisation (GEO) applies the same principles to AI-generated search experiences that summarise and cite sources. Neither replaces SEO; both depend on it.
Traditional SEO and AI-assisted discovery
The mechanics differ; the requirements overlap almost entirely. Content has to be crawlable, understandable, useful, credible, well structured and worth citing.
Traditional organic search
Crawlability and indexation · technical SEO · search intent · information architecture · internal linking · on-page optimisation · content · local SEO · authority and digital PR where appropriate · schema · page experience · conversion from organic traffic.
AEO / generative discovery
Answer-first content · semantic coverage · entity clarity · conversational queries · AI-assisted search experiences · citation-worthy first-party content · structured information · clear source attribution · visible authorship and expert-led content.
No “#1 in ChatGPT”. No invented AI schema.
Nobody can guarantee placement in a generative answer, and no markup property makes a page “AI-optimised”. What works is unglamorous: be the clearest, most credible, best-structured source on the topic, and make sure machines can read it.
How do businesses appear in AI search?
AI-assisted search tools assemble answers from sources they can crawl, understand and trust. Businesses appear when their pages answer real questions directly, name entities clearly (who, where, what), are well linked internally, are supported by structured data that matches the visible content, and carry visible authorship and first-party evidence.
How is AI search different from Google search?
Google search returns a ranked list of pages for a query. AI-assisted search returns a synthesised answer, often citing a few sources. Ranking still matters — it feeds the synthesis — but being extractable and citable matters more than it used to.
